Foster Parenting

Storey Homes is looking for foster parents/care givers throughout southern and eastern Ontario.  Becoming a foster parent can be a very rewarding yet challenging opportunity.  Storey homes welcomes Care Providers who are looking at opportunities to foster out of either an agency owned home or out of their own home.  Storey Homes works with children and youth who require a structured, stable and family focused environment to assist in building resilience while addressing the complex needs of the children and youth.

Storey Homes has always worked as a mixed modality environment in which our Care Providers receive the assistance of staff support, have 24hr On Call support, receive lots of agency paid training and are well compensated to take care the children and youth placed in their homes.

Residential Care Workers

Storey Homes is a diverse organization looking for staff to work in our homes who possess various cultural, ethnic, religious and educational backgrounds. Storey Homes provides mixed modality homes in which a Care Provider/Foster Parents take care of the children and youth while Residential Care Workers assist them in meetings the client population’s needs. We look to try and match a Residential Care Workers skill set with that of our Care Providers to provide the optimum level of care to the children and youth.  Some of the skills Storey Homes looks for in RCW’s include but are not limited to: ability to work as a team, takes initiative, working knowledge of trauma, attachment, mental health illnesses, FASD, crisis intervention skills, active listening skills, group dynamic skills, computer skills, active listening skills, able to communicate positively and effectively, problem solving ability, report writing, non-judgemental, and child focused approach.

Duties and responsibilities can vary depending on the home, the type of program and the children and youth however some of the employment duties include:

implementation of the home’s routines while following plan of care, crisis management plans and individual intervention plans, build healthy relationships while being committed to the safety and growth/progress of the children and youth, ensure goal setting is realistic and attainable while providing support and resources, be a role model/advocate/coach in all area’s of a child’s life, attend appointments or meetings as needed, ensure all needs of the children and youth are met, assist the Care Provider in day to day management of the home including household routines/chores/meal preparation, provide relief to Care Providers, implement treatment goals set out in CAFAS, C.P.S., Plan of Care and complete report writing requirements. In addition, RCW’s work to teach coping strategies, resiliency, pro-social skills, promote self respect, provide recreational opportunities, promote self-esteem and self-worth, and life skill development.

Successful applicants will be required to submit hiring documentation including proof of post secondary education, drivers licence/proof of insurance/driver’s abstract, medical note and immunization records, Criminal reference check with Vulnerable Sector check, First Aid and CPR certification and have a reliable vehicle in addition to attending mandatory training.
